In these troubled times of coronavirus pandemic, healthcare workers are working relentlessly for us without thinking about their own health to cease the spread of the infection. Leading university in public health, IIHMR University Jaipur, is conducting a webinar to create awareness for all these medical frontlines on April 6 (Monday) between 5 pm and 6 p.m. The panel of experts will include Dr SD Gupta, Chairman, IIHMR University, M.D. (Preventive & Social Medicine), Ph.D. (Epidemiology) and Dr. DK Mangal, Dean, Research, IIHMR University, MD (Preventive and Social Medicine), Fellow, Indian Public Health Association.
The panelists will throw light on how to ensure minimal risk of infection when treating patients with COVID-19 adhering to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines that recommended the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including a gown, gloves, and either an N95 respirator plus a face shield/goggles or a powered, air-purifying respirator (PAPR). Doctors, nurses, carers and paramedics around the world are working in stressful and frightening work environments, not just because the virus is little understood, but because in most settings they are under-protected, overworked and themselves vulnerable to infection. “In the midst of an epidemic or pandemic, healthcare workers are at the frontline. And when the frontline becomes incapacitated, the health system disintegrates. So, it becomes pivotal that we support them, who are stepping directly into COVID-19’s path to aid the afflicted and help halt the virus’s spread despite their own well-founded fears.,” said Dr SD Gupta, who is also one of the members of the advisory committee for COVID 19, Rajasthan Govt.
Dr D K Mangal added, “The heroism, dedication and selflessness of medical staff allow the rest of us a degree of reassurance that we will overcome this virus. As the outbreak is progressing day by day, healthcare worker infection rates would range from 2.1% to as high as 50%.”
IIHMR University has been leaving no stone unturned to create awareness against coronavirus pandemic. Recently, they hosted another webinar to create awareness among people on “Coronavirus #what we know and what we must do”. The webinar was attended by470 participants across the country. The experts had urged people to maintain social distancing which helps to break all the channels of transmission, hence blocking community transmission.
