INK, supported by The Hub Singapore, is to host INK Asia 2016 at the Shangri-La Hotel Singapore on May 19-20, 2016. The unique multi-sensory conference is bringing together thinkers, doers, artists and performers from around the world for breakthrough conversations on disruption. The two-day conference will encourage participants to rethink how to view change and progress. INK Asia 2016 is the second conference organised in Singapore by INK, a platform for the exchange of cutting-edge ideas and inspiring stories. It is supported by The Hub Singapore, the city’s largest community of entrepreneurs, creatives and techies. Targeted at Asia”s vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem, the conference is accessibly priced at only SGD 299.
The conference will feature a diverse group of speakers and performers who will drive a discussion around the changes that promise to revolutionise the way we work and play today and in the future. The speakers have been curated based on their achievements in fields as diverse as genomics, blockchain, cybersecurity, environmental conservation and more.
Speakers include Nobel Prize-winning biologist Dr. Sydney Brenner, whose contributions to the genetic code and molecular biology made him a global pioneer in his field.Jonathan Reiber, Senior Fellow and writer at the University of California Berkeley’s Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity and former advisor to the Obama Administration, will provide insights into where Singapore’s cybersecurity vulnerabilities lie, and how through applying management and leadership strategies, communities can build human resilience to the disruption caused by cyber-attacks.
Brock Pierce, the former child actor who was also involved in the establishment of digital currencies and virtual goods, and is highly involved in the blockchain ecosystem, will be speaking on the future of virtual currencies. Inventor and Director of Hardware at the American seed accelerator, Y Combinator, Luke Iseman, will share his entrepreneurial story, including how he manages to live ‘off the grid’ within a shipping container, avoiding high-rental prices – pertinent for space-constrained urban environments. He will also provide guidance and insights – and quite possibly ideas – for budding entrepreneurs.
Other speakers and hosts include Steve Boyes, conservation biologist fighting to protect Botswana’s Okavango Delta; Rick Smolan, co-creator of “The Human Face of Big Data”; Piyush Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of DBS Group; and the singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and the only female in the world to play the double violin,Gingger Shankar, among others.
“Our speakers and performers are individuals who both THINK, and DO. They turn ideas into creative action, and I hope INK Asia 2016 will inspire us all to do the same” saysINK Founder and CEO, Lakshmi Pratury.
“We have executives and technologists from organisations large and small who are driving the change we will see in the next decade or more. We have a Nobel Prize winner, and global experts on vitally important issues such as cybersecurity and Big Data who can provide us with broader insights into the disruption our innovation will cause, and environmental conservationists, who are fighting to reconcile our progress with the natural world. We will also be hearing from young entrepreneurs who decided to act on their dreams and create solutions to challenges,” she adds.
Fiza Malhotra, Head of Business Development and Corporate Innovation at The Hub Singapore, comments, “The Hub Singapore hosts many of the Singaporean start-ups and entrepreneurs who are trying to change the way we work, live, learn and play. Singapore itself is at the centre of innovation and creativity in Southeast Asia and is developing into a world-class ecosystem attracting individuals from around the world. This is the perfect place to host INK Asia 2016. Disruption is a defining issue of our time, and we need critical conversations between the various players in the ecosystem on how we can leverage knowledge, technology and our creative resources to better manage future change.”
