Manipal Hospitals completes the acquiring 100% stake in Columbia Asia Hospitals

Manipal Hospitals, today announced the successful completion of acquiring a 100% stake in Columbia Asia Hospitals Private Limited (Columbia Asia). The transfer of ownership has taken place post the completion of all regulatory approvals. With this acquisition, Manipal Hospitals becomes India’s second-largest multi-specialty hospital chain. Today, the integrated organization with the strong clinical expertise and breadth of services of Manipal Hospitals, complemented by the strengths of Columbia Asia in clinical and service quality, is uniquely placed to enhance access and address the growing demand for high-quality tertiary and quaternary healthcare in the country.

Commenting on the completion of the deal, Dr. Ranjan Pai, Chairman, Manipal Education, and Medical Group (MEMG), said, “We are pleased to have completed the regulatory processes that now allow these two outstanding healthcare delivery organisations to function as one. The acquisition helps Manipal Hospitals with a remarkable geographical and cultural fit that Columbia Asia offers to reach a larger national footprint. Together, the combined entity now has 26 hospitals across 14 cities with 7,000+ beds, and a talented pool of 4,000+ doctors and 10,000+ employees. Treating over 4 million patients annually, the hospital chain today ranks amongst the largest healthcare provider networks in the country.

Sharing his views on the completion of the transaction, Dan Baty, Chairman, Columbia Pacific Management said, “I am extremely enthusiastic about the combination of Manipal and Columbia Asia as it will allow a greater number of patients to be served by the clinical and service excellence ingrained in both organizations.”

Columbia Asia Hospitals commenced operations in India in 2005 in Hebbal, Bengaluru and operated 11 hospitals across the country in Bangalore, Mysore, Kolkata, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Patiala, and Pune with over 1,300 beds, 1,200 clinicians, and 4,000 employees.
