Speaking at the valedictory of the MEGAREUNION of Osmania Medical College’s 1980 admission batch, Sania Mirzas aid, long before I started playing Tennis, I aspired to be a doctor, I was studious in my studies, but this might be the closest I will come to be a doctor, with so many doctors around me. The two reasons for me being here is, inauguration of a Tennis Court and a Tennis academy, as a tennis player it is obviously very close to my heart and also I want Tennis to grow and hopefully one day become one of the best sports we have and more champs come out of India. Also I went through the most important moment of my life three months ago, when I had my baby, Dr Pranathi Reddy, an alumni of this institution, was my doctor, she made my last ten months the easiest ten months. I am humbled by all the good things said about me, I am not used to taking so much praise. My baby, unfortunately I don’t think I want him to play a sport, to be very honest, I prefer him to be a doctor, she said amidst loud applause from the gathering of doctors. I wish the academy the very best and hope it grows from strength to strength and has many more courts.

The alumni of OSMECOS80, raised funds by voluntary contribution, to a tune of Rs 66 lakhs, to undertake various projects in OMC.

The initiatives included :

  • Instituting of Four gold medals to award academic excellence in various specialties of medicine.
  • Refurbishing of the dilapidated OMC Auditorium Annexe, and installing of air conditioning, audiovisual system.
  • The Anatomy dissection hall being refurbished after five decades with new flooring, false roofing, LED lights, and new wash basins etc.
  • Display of pictures relating to the heritage of this great institution in the Auditorium Annexe and of human anatomy, in Anatomy dissection hall.

The OSMECOS80, as an integral part of the endeavour, constructed a new synthetic tennis court equipped with flood lighting, perimeter fencing and limited seating. This facility will benefit the students and staff of OMC. The tennis court project was executed at a cost of Rs 26 lakhs, by SMC Foundation, who overcame several engineering challenges before completing the project with a two month delay.
