Shine.com unveils HR Trends of 2019 that transformed the hiring space over the year

Banking on its vast volumes of data collated throughout the year, Shine.com, India’s second-largest job search platform has revealed the HR Trends 2019 report. The report covers the major factors that have transformed the hiring space over the year and will shape 2020’s hiring landscape. The report has insights from recruiters and hiring managers from across the country. Here’s looking at the major hiring trends from 2019:

  • The state of hiring across geographies

In a major development, 2019 witnessed exceptional job creation across tier 2 cities. While metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore have remained the frontrunners, considerable job creation has been witnessed across smaller cities such as Pune and Ahmedabad. The major sectors hiring within Tier 2 cities were BPO, education, training, etc. Seeing the sustained demand from these regions, this trend is expected to continue well into 2020 as well. Furthermore, 52% of the job growth witnessed in 2019 was generated from the southern parts of the country, followed by North (48.5%) and West (43%).

  • Mid-level jobs supersede entry-level profiles

A 2019 report by Shine.com also revealed some good news for mid-level professionals with 3-6 years of experience. According to the data collated, mid-level hiring witnessed a significant surge in the past year. Around 53.56% of the recruiters surveyed mentioned that they are looking to hire within this level. Having persisted throughout 2019, this trend is projected to continue well into 2020 as well.

  • The growing need for upskilling

Owing to the rapid changes in the job landscape and economy, several companies are ramping up their processes. Adopting innovative technologies, these companies are witnessing a massive change in their skill requirements. However, 33% of recruiters believe that finding suitable candidates with the right skill sets is a major challenge while hiring.

While companies require agile talent, suitably skilled professionals are few. As a result, the role of upskilling is emerging as the best way to bridge the existing and widening skill gap. Numerous professionals are turning to online learning platforms to acquire new skills and get access to high-value, tech-centric job opportunities. In today’s jobs landscape and economy, many companies are ramping up their processes to continue thriving amidst an uncertain and fast-changing ecosystem.

As the demand for up-skilling is increasing, the country has started to witness a shift in the emerging skillset trends. In fact, 38.53% of the recruiters have seen major changes over the last year in the area of emerging skillsets. These trends are expected to continue growing in 2020 as well.

  • Increasing use of job sites

As the demand for skilled professionals rises, recruiters are now turning to online job portals to find the right talent for their organization. 70.1% recruiters, to be precise, have depended on job sites to find suitably skilled professionals. Other means of talent discovery included referrals and social media networks.
