The School Law of Delhi Metropolitan Education, Noida Sector- 62, affiliated to GGSIP University in association with the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) organised a two-day Virtual International Symposium on “Deliberations on Rethinking the Environment: Sustainability in the Modern Era” on 25th and 26th March 2022. It aimed at re-evaluating the idea of sustainability and its effects on the conservation and protection of the global environment in the light of COP 26 held at Glasgow 2021.

The first day of the International Symposium on Environmental Sustainability started off with the Inaugural ceremony, which was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Member of Lok Sabha and the Founder of People For Animals, the guests of Honours was Prof. Dr. Nishtha Jaswal, Vice-chancellor of HPNLU Shimla and Dr. Antonietta Elia Professor in University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. This was followed up by 8 technical sessions and ended with a Panel discussion on “Sustainability in a Dynamic World: Past, Present and Future”. A total of 86 papers were presented in the technical sessions. The panel discussion comprised of six resource persons namely Ms. Maartje Zaal, Green Office Movement Coordinator and SOS International, Denmark; Ms. Patricia Ricard, President, The Paul Ricard Oceanographic Institute, France; Mr. Stéphane Jacques Henri Pouffary, CEO, ENERGIES 2050, France; Ms. Linda Wong, Honorary Advisor and Thematic Expert, CBCGDF, China; Mr. Naveen Mathur, CEO, Maithri Aqua Tech, India; Dr. R. S. Rawat, Scientist E, Biodiversity and Climate Change Division, Indian Council of Forest Research and Education, Dehradun, India.

The second day of the conference (i.e. 26th March 2022) started off with the Panel Discussion on “Community Resilience: A Modern Day Approach Towards Sustainability.” The Dignitaries present in the panel discussion were Dr. Debapriya Dutta, Advisor/Scientist in Department of Science and Technology, Government of India; Ms. Cecile Guidote- Alvarez, Director, Earth savers, UNESCO Dream Centre Earth Savers Movement, Mr. Vincent Martinez, President of Architecture 2030, New Mexico, USA; R.Sreedhar, Managing Trustee, Environics, Mr. Anurag Bajpai, Director, Greentree Global, Prof. (Dr.) Nuzhat Parveen, Former Dean, Jamia Millia Islamia.

The Symposium drew its curtains with the Valedictory Ceremony which was graced by the presence of its Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Director, Centre of Post Graduate Legal Studies, B.R. Ambedkar University, Lucknow, the Guest of Honours was Mr. Ranjan Chatterjee, Former Expert Member, National Green Tribunal, New Delhi and Ms. Gayatri Raghwa, Environment Education Consultant, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
