Guwahati, June 9: Assam has the potential to play a pivotal role in deepening India–European Union relations through expanded trade, improved connectivity, and increased investment flows, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Highlighting the state’s strategic location and growing infrastructure network, the Chief Minister noted that Assam can emerge as a vital gateway for strengthening economic engagement between India and Europe, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, handicrafts, tea, tourism, and emerging industries.
He said improved logistics, connectivity corridors, and trade facilitation measures could significantly boost Assam’s integration into global supply chains, enabling local producers and entrepreneurs to access wider international markets.
The Chief Minister emphasized that Assam’s evolving industrial ecosystem, combined with policy reforms and infrastructure development, is creating a favourable environment for foreign investment and collaborative ventures.
He also underlined the importance of knowledge exchange and partnerships in areas such as sustainable development, skill development, and green growth, which align with both India’s and the European Union’s shared priorities.
Officials said the state government is actively working to enhance ease of doing business, upgrade connectivity infrastructure, and promote export-oriented growth to position Assam as a competitive investment destination.
The statement reflects Assam’s broader vision of leveraging its geographic advantage and economic potential to contribute meaningfully to India’s expanding global trade partnerships.
