India, 02nd August 2024: The Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA), dedicated to driving digital transformation and IT ecosystem development in Azerbaijan, is actively seeking to attract startups and tech companies from India and other countries abroad to relocate to Azerbaijan. To accommodate the new businesses IDDA aims to create a dynamic exchange of ideas and technology with the top innovation leaders and expand the country’s digital potential.
In a significant move to strengthen regulatory frameworks, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan has signed ninto law a series of amendments aimed at refining provisions related to domestic relations, proof of identity, personal information, and data protection. This landmark legislation underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding personal data and improving the legal landscape for domestic matters, aligning with international standards and enhancing citizen trust.
Under this law, all information related to citizens’ identity documentation can be obtained and shared through mygov – a digital government platform developed by IDDA. The provision of data in such a manner will have the same legal force as the presentation of an actual ID card.
As a result, the need for citizens to have a plastic ID at all times will not be necessary anymore. Moreover, citizens will be able to access when, where and to which institution they submitted their ID cards’ information though the “mygov” application.
As for the businesses, this innovation will help them simplify and speed up their operations, reducing the need for physical ID cards, and minimizing the use of paper.
Along with the identification card documents, information available through the digital system will include birth, marriage and death certificates.
In May 2024 the importance of the innovation potential of mygov was already appreciated on the international level, when the prime version of the new governmental portal was announced the winner at the WSIS Prizes ceremony in the category “ICT applications: benefits in all aspects of life”. The integration of the new features on the mygov platform is yet another step towards the digital transformation of Azerbaijan’s society. A a part of the digital strategy the following initiatives have already been launched:
- digital. login platform that gives citizens an opportunity to use over 140 electronic services from one place with a unified login system
- Digital bridge, a National Information Exchange system, developed to simplify and speed up the data circulation between different Ministries within Azerbaijan by digitizing them.
- RSD – Paperless Government, aimed to ensure the exchange of electronic documents between governmental institutions through the RSD subsystem
- Chief Digital Transformation Officer (CDTO) Program that has trainings and sessions conducted to raise the digital excellence of government agency employees
- Establishment of the Cybersecurity Center where students can conduct research and develop new cutting-edge cyber security products to mitigate the risks posed by today’s sophisticated cyber threats
These, and all future initiatives, will help accelerate the digitalization of all processes within the country and streamline data exchange for the benefit of citizens, government entities and businesses, placing Azerbaijan among the countries with an actively developing business & innovation ecosystem.
