Pune: FLAME University, the pioneer of liberal education in India, is now expanding its offerings by launching optional 4-year undergraduate honours, adding new majors and minors to its undergraduate program, launching a Master of Science in Economics and instituting a doctoral program. FLAME has always been at the forefront of liberal education in India, relentlessly innovating its offerings. With an eye on the future and the fast changing world, FLAME is reinventing liberal education. Again.

Speaking about the objective of this planned expansion, Dr. Dishan Kamdar, Vice-Chancellor, FLAME University, said, “As higher education aspirations of students undergo a change, it is imperative that education institutions understand their changing needs and model their programmes accordingly. The additions to FLAME University’s academic offerings reflect our purpose to educate and equip the next generation with requisite skills and knowledge that ignite the imagination, fosters creativity and an innovative mindset that will motivate them to explore careers of their choice and in the process enable us to contribute to building and shaping the future of a new India.”

At the undergraduate level, new interdisciplinary majors in Data Science & Economics, Computer Science & Design and Design Management will be offered to take the total number of major offerings from 21 to 24. Minors in Philosophy and Computer Science will now be possible, taking the possible major-minor combinations to over 350, distinctive in an Indian context, and a testament to FLAME’s commitment to a truly interdisciplinary education. In addition, students will have an option to continue their undergraduate education for the fourth year, going deeper into their major, focusing on project-based interdisciplinary learning and earning an honours degree.

At the postgraduate level, an M.Sc. in Economics is launched with a belief that new paradigms of knowledge creation hinges on blending core knowledge with technological innovations. As such, the program is designed to create a knowledge base to analyse economic problems with modern data science methodologies. The program will thus combine economics and data sciences, two interdependent areas, to allow researchers to access and process big data using advanced econometrics and computational techniques to answer questions from varied areas in economics.

Additionally, a Ph.D. program in the areas of Data Science, Psychology, Economics, and Management has been introduced to develop the next generation of knowledge creators who will be able to approach issues from multiple perspectives, glean unique insights, and provide effective solutions to pressing problems of academic and practical interest.

Lastly, to enable the seamless implementation of the expanded offerings, FLAME School of Computing and Data Sciences has been established with a vision to be one of the leading centres of education and research in computing technologies. With the existing, FLAME School of Liberal Education, FLAME School of Business, FLAME School of Communication and FLAME School of Design, Art and Performance, the university builds on its intricate, rigorous and one-of-its kind liberal education curriculum offerings.
