Sam Bahadur the film captures the true essence of his remarkable journey, from his early days to becoming India’s first Field Marshal.
It’s a patriotic story that highlights the unbreakable resolve and selfless service of our soldiers, inspiring every Indian to cherish and honour the sacrifices made in the line of duty, because
Jazba Hai Jeena Mein, Jab Hindustan Hai Seene Mein.
The cast, led by Vicky Kaushal as General Sam Manekshaw, underwent rigorous preparation to embody his character convincingly, respecting the integrity and gravity of the story of the film. He quoted, “Playing Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw was an honour. It began when I was filming something else with Meghna when she mentioned her next film on Sam Manekshaw. I remember my parents narrating to me stories about the 1971 war and the undeniable contribution of Sam sir. I feel somehow it was an alignment of stars and manifestation of some sort. I trusted Meghna’s vision and felt Sam’s presence from the start. When we did the readings and went on floors, I could feel his presence and vividly remember telling Meghna, ‘’Sam is here!”. Personally, this is a project that I have put my heart and soul into, it’s a small tribute to the armed forces, and its release close to Kargil Vijay Diwas on Zee Cinema is the perfect way to honor them”
Commenting on the premiere, the director of the film, Meghna Gulzar said, “This was a huge responsibility on all of us. And we strived to leave no margin for error. Our research began in 2017 where we tried to connect with as many people associated with him – his daughters, grandchildren, extended family, colleagues and military associates. The more I learned about Sam Manekshaw, the more I got to know him – as a soldier and a gentleman – the more strongly I believed, and still do – they don’t make men like him anymore. I am and will always be grateful to Ronnie, Vicky, Sanya, Fatima, Zeeshan and all the cast and crew for giving me the privilege of presenting this legendary life on screen. And our tremendous respect and gratitude, for all the assistance and support, to the real superheroes, without whom this journey would not be possible – The Indian Army. It is truly special that now many many more people will get to watch our labor of love, SamBahadur, as it has its world television premiere on Zee Cinema.“
Sanya Malhotra said, “Siloo is such an important character. I couldn’t have imagined getting an opportunity to play a role like Siloo so soon in my career. Vicky Kaushal played his character to the T, and what added even more excitement to this was sharing screen space with my first ever co-actor, Fatima Sana Shaikh. Reuniting with her will always be special. All in all, it was an honour to be a part of Meghna’s creative direction. I can’t wait for audiences to watch the film on Zee Cinema!
Fatima Sana Shaikh added, “It was a moment of immense pride and adulation to be part of this project. I have always admired the dedication and passion that goes into bringing such stories to life. Initially, I was unsure about taking on the role, but Meghna encouraged me, saying, ‘Just trust me’. Today, I feel truly fortunate to have worked with such an amazing team. I believe the audience will get to learn a lot from Sam Bahadur’s life.”
