SPG 2025 Geoscience Symposium Bridges Academia-industry Gap, Secures Early Placements For Students

New Delhi/ Jaipur, 27 October 2025: The Society of Petroleum Geophysicists India (SPG) on Saturday announced that its flagship Geoscience Career Symposium, a highlight of the ongoing SPG 2025 conclave, has already secured job placements for six students with leading energy companies during pre-conference events.

The initiative, announced at a curtain-raiser press conference in Jaipur ahead of SPG 2025, India’s premier geo-science summit, is designed to bridge the talent gap between academia and the energy industry by bringing together leading companies and premier academic institutions. The curtain for the event was formally raised by ONGC Director (Exploration) O P Sinha, who also serves as the Patron of SPG India, on Saturday.

Designed to cultivate the next generation of energy professionals, the initiative focuses on connecting organizations with students graduating in 2026 in geology, geophysics, and petroleum engineering from top institutes across India. The symposium builds on the success of SPG 2023, where more than 12 students were recruited by leading energy companies. Demonstrating early success, six student selections have been confirmed ahead of the geophysicists’ meet, with more placements anticipated as the conference progresses through its final days.

“For the students in our sector, we have established 18 chapters across disciplines including geophysics, geology, and petroleum sciences. We invite two students from each specialization to explore diverse career options. Our comprehensive process includes invitations, note shortlisting, and conducting both online and offline tests to help students understand their standing. The entire selection mechanism involves multiple stages, from initial invitations to interviews as required,” an official of SPG said.

The platform features dedicated recruitment sessions, mentorship programs, and career guidance workshops, enabling organizations to identify qualified candidates while providing students exposure to real-world energy sector opportunities. This industry-academia interface ensures talented students receive appropriate guidance and opportunities to contribute to India’s energy security.

The Geoscience Career Symposium forms part of SPG’s larger mission to nurture young geoscientists through its network of 18 student chapters across the country. With over 3,500 members and nine regional chapters, SPG India continues to play a pivotal role in advancing geophysical sciences and supporting the energy sector’s human resource development.

Scheduled from October 26–28, 2025, at the Novotel Jaipur Convention Centre and Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre (JECC), the conference brings together over 700 delegates from more than 10 countries. Under the compelling theme “Rock to Cloud: Geo-Exploration Empowering Energy Evolutions 2025 will feature participation from Indian National Oil Companies including ONGC, ONGC Videsh, and Oil India and global energy majors such as BP (UK). Industry pioneers including Baker Hughes (USA), Shearwater (Norway), Sercel (France), Viridien (France, formerly CGG), Emerson Aspentech (USA), and Beicip Franlab (France) will showcase the latest technologies alongside specialized firms like Eliis (France), Geosoftware (Italy), Dig Science (Australia), and Solytics Partners. The event is endorsed by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and the European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers (EAGE).

The Society of Petroleum Geophysicists India (SPG), established in 1992, has grown into a globally recognized professional body maintaining affiliations with leading international organizations. The Society is dedicated to the advancement of geophysics and its applications in exploration and production, maintaining affiliations with leading international organizations including the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), USA; the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), Netherlands; and the Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (ASEG).
