In the heart of Rajkot, a sparkling new landmark is redefining urban recreation. Atal Sarovar, spread over 75 acres, has quickly become one of the city’s most popular destinations, drawing over 1.4 million visitors since its public opening on May 1, 2024, coinciding with Gujarat Foundation Day.

Once a neglected area, Atal Sarovar has been transformed into a “water-responsive” urban oasis under the Rajkot Smart City Mission, combining modern recreational facilities with eco-friendly design. Recognized in the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs’ “Vibrant Public Spaces” report, the site demonstrates how sustainable urban planning can coexist beautifully with leisure and culture.

A Playground for All Ages

From sunrise to sunset, Atal Sarovar offers something for everyone. Families can explore theme parks, landscaped gardens, a children’s park, and rides including a Ferris wheel and toy train. Adventure lovers can enjoy boating and cycling, while fitness enthusiasts have access to walking and jogging tracks that wind through lush green spaces.

Food lovers aren’t left out either—16 shops in an open food court and 12 in a closed court, along with a 42-shop Gram Haat, offer local delicacies and crafts. Cultural enthusiasts can catch light-and-sound shows, two amphitheatres, and a party plot, ensuring every visit is packed with experiences.

Sustainability at Its Core

Atal Sarovar isn’t just a fun destination—it’s a living ecosystem. Designed with Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (3R) principles, the lake occupies 25 acres and stores 477 million litres of water, while the remaining 50 acres are dedicated to green spaces, public amenities, and recreational zones. During the monsoon, it naturally collects rainwater, and in summer, recycled water keeps the lake full, reflecting Rajkot’s commitment to sustainable urban development.

A Model for Urban Growth

This project is part of a larger plan to develop three lakes across a 930-acre area, creating an integrated network for water conservation. With an investment of Rs 136 crore, including 15 years of operations and maintenance, Atal Sarovar exemplifies how urban infrastructure can be both eco-friendly and visitor-focused.

Why Visitors Keep Coming

What makes Atal Sarovar truly special is how it balances fun, culture, and nature. It’s not just a park—it’s a memory-making destination. Whether it’s a family picnic, an evening stroll, or a day of adventure on rides and cycling tracks, visitors leave with more than memories—they leave inspired by a city that values green, sustainable, and engaging public spaces.

With its scenic landscapes, modern amenities, and sustainable water management, Atal Sarovar has set a benchmark for urban projects in Gujarat, proving that smart city development can be beautiful, functional, and fun all at once.
