Jharsuguda Records 41.6°C as Heatwave Conditions Intensify Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 18: Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest location in Odisha on Monday morning, recording a maximum temperature of 41.6°C at 11:30 AM as heatwave conditions continue to affect several parts of the state.

According to meteorological data, the temperature in Jharsuguda showed a sharp increase compared to the previous day, when the reading stood at around 38°C at the same time. The sudden rise has intensified discomfort for residents in western Odisha.

Other regions also experienced high daytime temperatures. Sambalpur recorded 39°C, Hirakud 38.6°C, Balasore 38.2°C, while Bhubaneswar registered 36.4°C at 11:30 AM.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that heatwave conditions are likely to persist across multiple districts of Odisha until May 20. The rising temperatures are expected to continue impacting daily life, particularly in western and coastal regions.

Authorities have advised people to take necessary precautions, including avoiding prolonged exposure to heat, staying hydrated, and limiting outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.

The ongoing heatwave has led to increased concern over public health and safety, especially among vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
