Shri D. Sridhar Babu launches Bokkala Vagu Check Dam Beautification Initiative in Manthani in partnership with Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB)

Manthani, Peddapalli District, Telangana, 3rd August: Shri DSridhar Babu, Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Industries & Commerce and Legislative Affairs, Government of Telangana, today formally initiated efforts to beautify the Bokkala Vagu Check Dam in Manthani, Peddapalli district.

The project is being undertaken in partnership with Hindustan CocaCola Beverages (HCCB) under its flagship community partnership programme, Project SHINE. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by, Mr. Koya Sree Harsha, IAS, Collector and District Magistrate, Peddapalli, Government of Telangana, Avinash Kant Kumar, Head of Integrated Supply Chain, HCCB, and Himanshu Priyadarshi, Chief Public Affairs, Communications & Sustainability Officer, HCCB, along with local officials and community members.

Manthani, located on the banks of the Godavari River, has a history of water management dating back nearly two thousand years, with the region’s tank-based irrigation systems tracing back to the Satavahana and Kakatiya periods. The Bokkala Vagu Check Dam initiative aims to build on this legacy by improving a vital community water resource for local communities in the Manthani region.

As part of the initiative, several improvements will be undertaken around the Bokkala Vagu Check Dam to enhance community infrastructure and amenities. These efforts will help create a more accessible and welcoming public space for local residents, while also improving the surrounding environment.

Speaking at the launch event, Shri DSridhar Babu, Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Industries & Commerce and Legislative Affairs, Government of Telangana, said, “The Bokkala Vagu Check Dam beautification initiative is an important step towards enhancing a valuable community asset for the people of Manthani. The region’s connection to water conservation and community water resources spans centuries, and this initiative reflects our commitment to preserving that legacy while creating better public spaces for local residents. The improvements planned around the Check Dam will make it a more accessible and welcoming space for the community. Partnerships such as this with Hindustan CocaCola Beverages (HCCB) under Project SHINE demonstrate how government and industry can work together to drive meaningful development and create lasting value for communities across the Manthani region.”
