‘Accused’ Premieres on Netflix, Exploring Truth, Power and Perception

Bengaluru, Feb 28: What is truth? What is falsehood? When power and accusation collide, how does a person’s life spiral out of control? Seeking answers to these unsettling questions is the new psychological drama ‘Accused’, which begins streaming on Netflix from February 27.

‘Accused’ Premieres on Netflix, Exploring Truth, Power and Perception

Produced by Dharma Productions and directed by Anubhuti Kashyap, the film unfolds from the perspective of the accused. It poignantly portrays how society often delivers its verdict long before the truth is fully known, leaving a person’s life shattered in the process.

At the heart of the story is Dr. Geetika Sen, played by acclaimed actress Konkona Sen Sharma, a respected gynecologist with an esteemed position in society. When she faces serious allegations of sexual misconduct, her world turns upside down. The accusation not only threatens her professional standing but also strains her intimate relationship with her partner Meera, portrayed by Pratibha Ranta. The emotional turmoil Geetika experiences amidst public scrutiny and legal challenges forms the soul of the film.

Speaking about her role, Konkona Sen Sharma said,

“Geetika is someone who had complete control over her career and dignity. Exploring how such a person crumbles internally under the weight of allegations was emotionally compelling for me. I appreciate Netflix for supporting a story that relies on silence and nuanced performances rather than spectacle.”

Pratibha Ranta added,

“Portraying Meera, who lives in the fragile space between trust and doubt, was truly challenging. It is encouraging to see Netflix present such layered and realistic narratives about complex human emotions.”

While stories of this nature often focus on the victim’s perspective, ‘Accused’ delves into the psychological conflict of the accused and questions society’s prejudiced gaze. Rather than loud confrontations, the film draws viewers in through subtle emotions, conveying that truth is rarely as simple as it appears. Exploring themes of power, perception, and doubt, ‘Accused’ is now streaming on Netflix.
