Bhubaneswar, May 27: The Odisha government has unveiled plans to transform Acharya Vihar into a major IT hub by constructing a state-of-the-art Technology Business Tower. The project will be built on the site of the old Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) building, which will be demolished to make way for the new infrastructure.
To facilitate the development, Expressions of Interest (EOI) have been invited from potential developers. The proposed tower is expected to attract an investment of around ₹200 crore and will span approximately three lakh square feet. Designed to meet the needs of modern technology companies, the building will host both OCAC and private IT firms.
The OCAC, established in 1985 under the Department of Science and Technology and later transferred to the Electronics and IT Department in 2003, has been instrumental in the digitization of government departments. However, with the rapid evolution of the IT industry, there is a pressing need to modernize the facility.
Currently, the OCAC complex already houses a seven-storey building where several IT and skill development companies operate. Additionally, the nearby Odisha Technology Centre, located beside Maharaja Talkies, is home to global IT companies like Accenture and Cognizant, operating in a 51,000 square foot space. In its second phase, an additional 29,000 square feet will be added.
Once the new Technology Business Tower is completed, it will significantly strengthen Acharya Vihar’s identity as a premier destination for IT innovation and enterprise in Odisha.
