Apple is one of the most popular companies in the world and certainly the biggest, being valued at $3.6 trillion and having a yearly revenue of nearly $400 billion.
With ~$94 billion in profit in 2024, Apple can get involved in all sorts of epic projects. So the fact that they decided to reinvigorate American manufacturing is no surprise. But it’s certainly amazing to see Tim Cook doing this on such a massive scale.
$500 billion is more than most country’s GDP. Only 25 nations on this Earth make that kind of money in a year. The number is interesting from an additional point of view. It’s equal to the amount announced by the US president, Donald Trump, for AI development and all the infrastructure that will be needed to run millions of GPUs.
Just as Apple is reshaping the tech landscape, the online gaming industry is undergoing its own transformation, seeking to enhance user experience with games like Fortune Dragon. But all of that pales in comparison to what the AI and manufacturing sectors are going through right now.
Apple’s Ambitions
Under Tim Cook, Apple has become a truly diversified company that continues to improve its products and even to innovate to some extent. Innovation was a huge part of Apple’s culture but nowadays, unless they’re willing to start testing new waters, it’s hard to come up with something truly revolutionary.
Sure, the latest iPhones are better than the ones from five years ago. But the improvements are incremental and too small to get the public excited. Everyone still buys a new phone every once in a while, and statistics clearly show that most people continue to stay loyal to Apple, despite their high prices.
But I’m starting to suspect that even the company’s employees, or at least its management, have started to have nightmares in which Steve Jobs screams at them for not coming up with anything revolutionary.
With so many skilled engineers under one roof and hundreds of billions of dollars in cash reserves, Apple is in a perfect position to take calculated risks and create amazing new products. But very little has happened in the last five years.
Now that the IT industry is galvanized by all the AI hype, it seems that Apple is starting to take its role more seriously.
