ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Announces Leadership Transition as Dilip Oommen to Retire; Amit Harlalka Appointed CEO

Mumbai, Mar 27: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India announced that its Chief Executive Officer, Dilip Oommen, will retire on June 30 after an illustrious 22-year association with the company, including its earlier avatar as Essar Steel.

Post-retirement, Oommen will continue his association with the organization as a Board Member of AM/NS India and will also take on the role of Vice-Chairman at ArcelorMittal India Private Limited, representing ArcelorMittal’s interests in India.

The company has appointed Amit Harlalka, currently Chief Financial Officer, as the new Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1. Harlalka joined AM/NS India in December 2019 and has held key leadership roles, including CFO since January 2023. Prior to this, he built extensive experience with ArcelorMittal across global locations such as Mexico, Zenica, and Luxembourg. He began his career with Hindustan Unilever Limited and is a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, along with an MBA in Finance from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. He has also been appointed as a Member of the ArcelorMittal Group Management Committee.

Commenting on the transition, Aditya Mittal, Chairman of AM/NS India and Chief Executive of ArcelorMittal, said:

He added, “Amit has proven himself as a trusted leader and is more than ready to step into the CEO role. His strong operational understanding, involvement in growth plans across steel and renewables, and focus on safety position him well to lead the company into its next phase of growth.”

Reflecting on his journey, Dilip Oommen said:
