New Delhi, Feb 13: Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang, called on the Hon’ble Union Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, and held a meaningful and constructive discussion on key developmental issues concerning the State.

During the interaction, the Chief Minister, on behalf of the people of Sikkim, expressed his sincere gratitude to the Union Finance Minister and the Central Government for the special focus accorded to the North-Eastern Region in the Union Budget. He particularly welcomed the announcement of the Scheme for Development of Buddhist Circuits, describing it as a significant and timely initiative for the region.
Shri Tamang stated that the recognition of the North-East as a civilizational confluence of the Theravada and Mahayana/Vajrayana traditions strongly resonates with the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Sikkim. He noted that the proposal to preserve Buddhist sites and monasteries, improve connectivity, and enhance pilgrim amenities has been warmly welcomed by the people of the State.
The Chief Minister further highlighted that the discussion with the Union Finance Minister was enriching and encouraging. He appreciated her profound insight, steadfast commitment, and continued support towards ensuring inclusive, balanced, and sustainable development in Sikkim.
Expressing gratitude for the Centre’s continued attention and guidance on matters vital to the State’s progress and welfare, Shri Tamang also conveyed his heartfelt thanks to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, for his visionary leadership and constant encouragement. He remarked that under the Prime Minister’s leadership, states like Sikkim continue to receive unwavering support for holistic and people-centric development.
The meeting reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to strengthening developmental initiatives in Sikkim and the wider North-Eastern Region.
