October 29th 2025: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has begun piloting ‘Elevate’, an AI-powered mock interviewer developed by Newton School to help students strengthen their interview preparation and placement performance.
Elevate is designed to replicate real company-style interviews and provide detailed feedback that helps students understand and improve their performance. The pilot at IIT Roorkee marks an important step in Newton School’s effort to bring AI-driven learning and assessment tools to academic institutions.
Many engineering students perform well in academics but struggle during interviews due to stress, lack of structure, or limited practice opportunities. According to Newton School’s internal data, nearly 70% of software aspirants fail their first interview attempt not because of technical skill gaps, but due to anxiety and communication challenges.
Elevate aims to solve this gap by offering AI-simulated interviews modeled on real hiring processes used by companies such as Amazon, Google, Razorpay, and CRED. The tool analyses student responses, asks relevant follow-up questions, and provides a data-backed evaluation report that highlights strengths, areas for improvement, and communication patterns. By creating an environment similar to real interviews, students can identify their blind spots early and improve performance before facing actual recruiters.
“We’ve seen students who are technically sound but lose confidence in high-pressure interview settings,” said Prof. Raj Kumar Dutta, Prof in charge CDC(Department Of Chemistry), IIT Roorkee. “Piloting Elevate allows our students to experience structured and adaptive interview practice in a realistic, low-pressure environment. This will help them perform with greater composure and clarity during placements.”

Elevate has been trained on more than 1,00,000 real interview experiences and mirrors the tone and flow of human-led technical interviews. Each session concludes with a personalized report that references specific moments from the interaction and provides actionable feedback on coding approach, problem-solving ability, and communication.
