New Delhi, May 20 — India has emerged as the fourth-largest seafood exporter in the world, showcasing remarkable growth in both volume and market reach over the past decade.
In 2014–15, India exported seafood to 105 countries. By 2024–25, that number has increased to 130 countries, reflecting the rising global demand for Indian marine products. During this period, seafood exports surged from 10.51 lakh tonnes to 16.58 lakh tonnes.
This growth has also translated into significant revenue. India’s seafood export earnings rose from $5.4 billion in 2014–15 to $7.2 billion in 2024–25. Officials attribute this success to advancements in aquaculture, improved cold storage infrastructure, and adherence to international quality standards.
As Indian exporters tap into high-value global markets, the expansion has helped reduce market risks and open new opportunities. Experts believe this upward trend positions India strongly in the global seafood trade and strengthens its economic resilience in the marine export sector.
