Mahanagar Gas Limited Cautions Customers Against Fake Messages, Scam Links and APK Downloads

Mumbai, Feb 27: Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has issued a public advisory urging customers to remain vigilant against fraudulent messages and calls, scam links, malicious APK downloads and impersonation attempts being circulated via SMS and WhatsApp in the company’s name.

MGL has recently received multiple reports of fraudsters impersonating company representatives and sending fake gas bill updates or immediate disconnection notices. Customers are being prompted to click on suspicious links, download APK files, or share sensitive personal and financial information.

The company clarified that such communications are malicious attempts designed to mislead consumers into disclosing confidential details or installing malware on their devices, which may result in cyber theft and financial losses.

MGL has strongly advised customers not to respond to such fraudulent messages or calls. In case of any suspicious communication, consumers are requested to verify directly with MGL through its official contact channels.

MGL reiterated that its representatives never ask for personal financial information such as bank account details, OTPs, card numbers or passwords over phone calls, SMS or WhatsApp. The company also does not request customers to download APK files or click on unknown or suspicious links.

While MGL continues to sensitise customers through multiple communication platforms about digital safety and fraud awareness, it noted that some consumers are still falling victim to such cybercrime attempts.

Customers who suspect fraudulent activity are advised to immediately report the matter to their nearest police station or cybercrime cell for appropriate action.

MGL remains committed to ensuring customer safety and urges consumers to stay alert and exercise caution while interacting with digital communications.
