According to Cognitive Market Research, the global Ultra Short Throw (UST) projector market, worth US$ 2251.2 million, is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 29.30% till 2031. It estimates that India’s UST sales revenue in 2024 will be US$ 62.13 million and is expected to grow at a CAGR of an impressive 33.1 percent during the same period.
A key reason for the popularity of UST projectors is their growing demand in the home entertainment sector, especially post-COVID-19, with the rise of OTT platforms and premium 4K content. During pandemic lockdowns, home entertainment consumers turned to these projectors for an immersive cinema-like experience. At the same time, gamers sought them for wide-screen gameplay at home, compensating for limited access to gaming stations.
“The UST projectors once limited to education, healthcare, special events, and corporate use, have now been mainstreamed. The main advantage is that these projectors can deliver large screens, up to 150 inches and above, from just a few feet from the wall, offering flexibility for consumers to place them anywhere at home or carry them on the go to create a complete entertainment experience anytime anywhere,” says Sushil Motwani, founder of Aytexcel Private Limited, the official distributor of Formovie projectors in India.
Mr Motwani adds that convenience is a priority for today’s consumers when selecting UST projectors. “Our latest models come with Google TV and built-in apps like Netflix, allowing users to stream directly from the projector without external devices or complex setups. Technologies like ALPDⓇ, along with intelligent light-dimming and eye care features, enhance visual quality. Additionally, the compact projectors fit inconspicuously in modern homes and even in small apartments,” he says.
He adds that the space-saving, built-in speakers and advanced sound systems like Dolby Atmos eliminate the need for additional speakers or sound bars.
He anticipates that with the changing consumer preferences, more versatile and compatible UST projectors will enter the market in the coming years, sustaining this upward growth momentum. “Compared to traditional televisions, UST projectors provide a smarter, more versatile, and convenient alternative and they are here to stay as an invaluable addition to contemporary smart homes,” he concludes.
