Viksit Bharat for Varisht Bharat – getting ready for the silver Tsunami
Crime against senior citizens is on the rise with 26,110 incidents of crime against senior citizens reported in 2021 as per the National Crime Records Bureau. According to criminal head-wise cases, simple harm accounted for 28.3 percent (7,396 cases) of crimes against senior citizens in 2021, followed by theft with 13.5 percent (3,531 incidents) and FCF (Forgery, Cheating, & Fraud) with 11.3 percent (2,948 cases).

In another 26 years, by 2050 as India achieves its vision for “Viksit Bharat” or a developed nation status (Vision India @ 2047 Plan), it would also be home to 17% of the world’s senior population. According to a United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) report, India’s elderly population is expected to double and make up over 20% of the country’s total population by 2050. This would be close to 347 million people and would surpass the population of children (aged 0 to 15 years) by 2046. The report also projects that the population of people aged 80+ years will grow at a rate of around 279% between 2022 and 2050.
Saumyajit Roy, CEO & Co-Founder, EMOHA Eldercare said, “Emoha and SIS – VProtect together will now empower millions of sons and daughters who remain worried about the safety and health of their elders pan-India. I would love to see as part of India’s vision 2047 a Viksit Bharat for Varisht Bharat – a country that celebrates its elderly with ‘moh’ as we call it Emoha. Our elders are the foundation of our society and for the youth of India to prosper, they need a trusting ecosystem for their parents’ safety”.
