Tata Steel Meramandali Launches Electric Buses for Employees

7th April 2025– Tata Steel Meramandali (TSM) has launched a fleet of 20 electric buses for its employees, marking a significant step towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation. This initiative is a part of Tata Steel’s ongoing efforts to reduce its environmental impact and promote green solutions within its operations.

The electric buses, inaugurated by Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President of Corporate Services, Tata Steel, and Uttam Singh, Vice President – Operations, TSM, will operate within the plant premises to facilitate intra-plant movement for employees. This move is expected to cut down carbon emissions by 500 tonnes annually, contributing to Tata Steel’s target of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2045.

The newly established bus bay includes charging stations and maintenance facilities to support the electric buses. The fleet is equipped with advanced battery systems, ensuring comfortable and eco-friendly transport for employees.

This launch is a significant addition to TSM’s ongoing sustainability efforts, which also include 15 electric vehicles for intra-plant use. By adopting these green initiatives, Tata Steel is leading the way in eco-conscious operations while enhancing the convenience of its workforce.
