TEXMiN - IIT(ISM) Dhanbad and Odisha Mining Corporation Sign MoU to Strengthen Capacity Building and Innovation in Mining

New Delhi, Mar 23: IIT(ISMDhanbad – TEXMiN Foundation (Technology Translation Research Park, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India), and Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd. (OMC), a Government of Odisha undertaking, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on capacity building, academic partnership, research and innovation, and the advancement of safe, sustainable, and digitally enabled mining practices. The partnership marks an important step toward strengthening institutional capabilities and driving transformation across the mining sector. 

Speaking on the collaboration, Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Dy Director, IIT (ISMDhanbad and Project Director, TEXMiN Foundation, said, “This partnership with Odisha Mining Corporation reflects our shared commitment to building future-ready capabilities for the mining sector. By combining academic excellence, translational research, and industry engagement, we aim to create a robust framework for professional development, innovation, and technology-led transformation that supports safer, smarter, and more sustainable mining operations in India.” 

Speaking on the collaboration, Shri Alok Kumar Pal, Director (HR) from Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd. (OMC) said, “This collaboration with IIT (ISMDhanbad – TEXMiN will help strengthen our internal capabilities and support the adoption of best practices in mining operations. Through structured training, policy-oriented learning, and innovation-led engagement, we look forward to building a more efficient, future-oriented, and sustainable mining ecosystem.” 

The MoU lays the foundation for a broad-based collaboration focused on capacity building of employees through an academic partnership with IIT (ISMDhanbadTEXMiN. Key areas of engagement under the agreement include managerial capability enhancement, development of a continuous learning ecosystem, research and innovation collaboration, policy and compliance training, as well as collaborative projects and case studies. The partnership will also include Management Development Programmes (MDPs) and short-term courses to be conducted as needed, alongside technical assistance and guidance for digital transformation, productivity improvement, and safe, sustainable mining operations.
