AYUSH Committee, PHD Chamber organized a Webinar on Testing Protocols & Stability Studies of ASU Drugs on 16th June 2022.
The webinar was graced with the presence of Dr. M.A. Qasmi, Advisor, (Unani) Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India as a Chief Guest and Dr. Pankaj Goyal, Deputy Director, National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) as Guest of Honour.
The webinar was also joined by Dr. Rajiv Rai, Chair, AYUSH Committee & Head Research, Dabur India Limited and Dr. Santosh Joshi, Co-Chair, AYUSH Committee & Sr. General Manager, (R&D) Hamdard Laboratories India.
The other eminent speakers present were Dr. Deepika Gunawant, Senior Consultant, Ayurveda & Wellness at Max Multi Specialty Centre, Mr. J P Sinha, Vice President, Analytical Division, Multani Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Mr. Shashank Agarwal, AGM, Quality Control, Hamdard Laboratories Ltd and it was moderated by Dr. Ravi Rathod, Joint Secretary, PHD Chamber.
While welcoming the guests Dr. Rajiv Rai spoke about significance of testing and stability of ASU drugs. He mentioned that testing helps manufacturers to create products that are reliable within certain technical standards. It is therefore a necessary to provide high-quality products that has longer shelf life which further helps business to determine the viability of the product.
Dr. M.A. Qasmi talked about importance of testing for all ASU drugs. He shared detailed information on product shelf life and packaging & Container closure system which are very much important as it will be affected by lot of environmental factors. He mentioned that Shelf life testing helps to determine how long a food product can preserve its microbial, chemical and physical integrity and can also indicate whether the food is safe to eat by the end of its shelf life.
Dr. Pankaj Goyal mentioned about importance of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in the pharmaceutical industry as per the requirement of the Schedule-M of Drugs & Cosmetics Rules 1945, ensures that products are consistently produced and controlled to the quality standards appropriate to their intended use and is aimed primarily at diminishing the risks inherent in any pharmaceutical production.
Dr. Santosh Joshi said that the use of herbal medicines continues to expand rapidly across the world. Many people now take herbal medicines or herbal products for their health care in different national health-care settings. The majority of adverse events related to the use of herbal products and herbal medicines that are reported are attributable either to poor product quality or to improper use.
Dr. Deepika Gunawant shared a brief presentation about quality control of ASU drugs and various measures to assure quality products. She also talked about manufacturing and dispensing of various products. She further said that environmental changes, globalization and complex nature of Herbal medicinal products & substances are the factors which mandate the stability study of the product to have accepted in the world for their safety and efficacy.
Mr. J P Sinha shared a presentation about testing protocols for AYUSH products. He further explained biological parameters used in testing. He mentioned about AYUSH guidelines required for stability testing and these guidelines can be used for all patented and proprietary Ayurvedic medicines in new and existing products. He also highlighted about various factors affecting the stability like environmental and product related factor in the products.
Mr. Shashank Agarwal also shared a brief presentation about the protocols required for testing of ASU medicines. He urged to provide the training for correct testing procedure to ensure the testing consistency with accurate and reproducible results. It also helps to boost the knowledge and develop analytical skills about the products.
