New Delhi: 21K School – India’s First Online School hosted a collaborative Language Week for students to encourage them to indulge in mindful reading and creative writing. The vision behind organising the language week was to promote a functional proficiency amongst students of Grade 1 to Grade 5 in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
The interactive week was kickstarted by a day of DEAR – where students dropped everything and read, followed by poetry day where pupils wrote and recited poems depending on the class they belonged to. Vernacular Day was one of the most interesting additions, as children brought books in their mother tongue and narrated stories to their classmates – celebrating diversity in dialect. A day dedicated to Spell Bee got all students excited as they got to compete with their fellow learners whilst having fun. 21K School also hosted a day of Dress Up, where students impersonated some of their favourite literary characters, with the objective of gaining an intimate understanding of their journey in stories that were created for them.
The week closed with a live Author’s Talk on Facebook. Enthusiastic students were greeted by three esteemed authors namely, Aruna Balakrishna, Katie Bagli and Praniti Gulyani – each of whom have created a mark for themselves in their genre of writing. The morning batch of students from Grade 1 to Grade 3, interacted with Kati Bagli, an avid nature lover who has published 23 titles to her credit so far, nearly all of which are on various subjects of nature. Grade 4 and 5 had the opportunity to rendezvous with the inspirational Praniti Gulyani, a seventeen-year-old student whose first book ‘Sixteen Drops of Ink’ was published by The Impish Lass Publishing House and has won numerous laurels in the field of creative writing. The afternoon batch of Grade 1 to Grade 3, E-met Aruna Balakrishna, an ex-journalist who dipped into her creative passion for storytelling by writing comics for children with Tinkle and Amar Chitra Katha.
