These Popular Wedding Destinations Are on Americans’ Short List

foreign wedding destinations

According to an October 2025 report on foreign wedding destinations, Italy is the most popular pick among Americans looking to marry next year. The study by JJ’s House, a wedding retailer, analyzed which countries Americans are researching most when planning weddings overseas.

  • Italy is the favorite foreign wedding destination for Americans, with soon-to-be-married couples looking it up 250K times each month.
  • Southern Europe draws the most interest, with Greece, Spain, and Portugal all making the top 10.
  • Jamaica is the most budget-friendly wedding location among the top picks, with typical ceremonies costing about $9K.

The research looked at what Americans are typing on Google when they’re thinking about getting married abroad. It tracked three things people search for: wedding packages in different countries, specific wedding venues, and general information about destination weddings. All these searches were added together to see which countries people are most interested in. The study also included wedding costs for 50 guests to show whether the most popular destinations are actually affordable.

Here’s a look at the top 10 wedding locations Americans want for 2026:

1. Italy

  • Wedding package searches: 6K per month
  • Wedding venue searches: 142K per month
  • Wedding destination searches: 102K per month
  • Average wedding cost: $29K

Italy is the top wedding destination for Americans planning to get married soon. Couples in the US are looking up Italian wedding options nearly 250K times each month. People are mainly looking for venues, with over 141K Americans researching different locations for their ceremonies. Getting married in Italy doesn’t come cheap ($29K), but that hasn’t stopped Americans from putting it at the top of their wedding wishlist.

2. Mexico
Mexico is second on the list, with American couples looking it up over 183K times each month. The country is especially popular for all-inclusive wedding packages, which get 42K queries monthly, way more than any other destination. People are also checking out local venues at 50K times per month, and another 90K are researching Mexican weddings in general. Mexico is a lot cheaper than Italy, with weddings costing around $20K for 50 guests,

3. Jamaica
Jamaica is the third most popular choice for weddings. American soon-to-be-weds explore Jamaican wedding possibilities more than 50K times every month, largely because it’s one of the most affordable tropical options. A 50-guest wedding here costs just $9K, which is less than half what couples would spend in Mexico.

4. Greece
Greece comes in fourth, attracting similar attention to Jamaica from couples planning their weddings. A lot of newly engaged couples are exploring Greece as a wedding option, while 18K look for actual venues, and another 3K consider all-inclusive packages. A Greek wedding costs around $18K for 50 guests, making it pricier than Jamaica but more affordable than Italy.

5. Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic rounds out the top five, drawing interest from more than 40K US couples. All-inclusive packages seem to be the main appeal here, with nearly 16K people exploring these options every month. At $12K for 50 guests, weddings in the Dominican Republic cost less than both Greece and Mexico, giving couples a more affordable Caribbean option.

A spokesperson from JJ’s House commented on the study:
“A wedding is one of the biggest moments in your life, so it makes sense that some couples want to make it truly unforgettable by celebrating somewhere exotic. The typical American wedding costs around $36K, which means getting married overseas isn’t always more expensive; sometimes it actually saves you money. Weddings today tend to be smaller too, so even flying your closest family and friends to a destination like Jamaica or Mexico can cost less than hosting a big traditional celebration back home.”
