FaZe Clan Wins PGL Major Antwerp 2022

During that period, there were many surprises, but in the end, two teams faced each other that were voted as the great favorites to go for it all. The Format of the Championship

The tournament is divided into the stages as follows:

• Challengers stage: May 9-12

• Legends stage: May 14-17

• Champions stage: May 19-22

Below we present a detailed description of each stage of the PGL Аntwerp 2022.

The Challengers Stage

This is the first stage of the championship that determines the teams advancing to the next phase. All the matches are played according to the scheme as follows:

• The 16 best teams are divided into two groups.

• All matches are played in the Swiss tournament system (the teams earn points, and each team plays until it scores 3 wins or has 3 losses).

• The starting or relegation matches are to be the Best of 3, the other matches are the Best of 1.

• Seed matches are played in the Buchholz system (based on the results of the RMR standings)

Then, the top 8 teams advance to the next stage, the bottom 8 teams of the bracket are excluded.

The Legends Stage

This is the second and main stage of the contest that determines the 8 top teams with the right to play in the playoffs. The scheme is as follows:

• The 16 teams compete in the Swiss tournament system.

• The starting or relegation matches are to be the Best of 3, the other matches are the Best of 1.

• Seed matches are played according to the Buchholz system.

Afterward, the top 8 teams move to the champions stage, the bottom 8 teams of the bracket are excluded respectively.

The Champions Stage

This is the last stage of the contest that includes the playoff matches and the grand final. The scheme is as follows:

• All matches are played in the Best of 3.

• Simple elimination format (no second chances in this phase).

• Seed matches are based on final rankings from the legends stage.

On the way to win PGL Antwerp

Although Finn “karrigan” Andersen and his team did not have to start from the Сhallengers Stage, they still had a long way to go. As for the betting, FaZe Clan was considered the favorite of the PGL Antwerp 2022 and came with the odds of 3.12 for the championship title.

The Legends Stage

In this phase, FaZe Clan had four matches to play.

1. FaZe vs ENCE. Their first stage of the PGL Major began with a defeat (8-16) against ENCE Esports on Mirage.

3. Cloud9 vs FaZe. The team also looked at a level above Cloud9 while trampling on Nuke leaving them with no more than 8 rounds in the game.

4. Copenhagen Flames vs FaZe. After the best of one match, FaZe Clan fought the Copenhagen Flames. Though they lost the first card, they somehow achieved two solid shows in Ancient (13-16) and Nuke (6-16).

The Champions stage

As for the Champions Stage of a CS:GO Major, there are no second chances in games. FaZe Clan had the three matches in this phase as follows:

1. NIP vs FaZe. The quarterfinals saw a lot of action when FaZe Clan faced Ninjas in Pyjamas. Once again, they showed how good they can be at Nuke (10-16) when they took a 1-0 lead. However, no one expected NIP to beat FaZe on Overpass (16-13). Fortunately for the bettors, Karrigan was able to gather his troops while securing victories in Inferno (8-16).

2. FaZe vs Spirit. Their fight against the Swedish team showed that FaZe Clan has a group of cards to compete against everyone else. This fact was demonstrated in the semifinals, where FaZe played against Team Spirit and won with a final result of 2-0.

3. FaZe vs Natus Vincere. The grand final of the PGL Antwerp 2022 was between these two teams. Natus Vincere allowed both Inferno and Nuke to enter the pool. Since FaZe Clan seemed solid in these two cards, NaVi would have a hard time in the grand final. FaZe Clan overtook Natus Vincere in crucial rounds at Inferno (19-16) while taking a 1-0 lead for themselves. Finally, FaZe showed a good performance on Nuke (16-10) and managed to defeat NaVi with a final result of 2-0.
