Advanced Cataract Surgeries Restore Vision for Elderly Patients at Sankara Eye Hospital, Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Feb 23: Highlighting the impact of timely intervention and advanced eye care, Sankara Eye Hospital, Hyderabad, has successfully restored vision for two elderly patients through modern cataract surgery, enabling them to regain clear vision and return to normal life within days of the procedure.

Both patients had been experiencing progressive blurring of vision. They were having trouble moving around during evening hours, a common symptom of age-related cataracts. They approached the hospital as walk-in patients seeking evaluation and treatment.

After clinical evaluation, they underwent standard cataract removal. The surgeries were performed using advanced phacoemulsification technology, a minimally invasive technique that uses ultrasound energy to break down the cloudy lens through a micro-incision. The procedure allows for faster healing, minimal pain, and quick visual recovery, with a foldable intraocular lens implanted immediately after cataract removal. The surgeries were led by Senior Cornea and Cataract Surgeon Dr Guduru Venkata Prabhakar at Sankara Eye Hospital, Hyderabad.

Each surgery was completed within 15–20 minutes. The patients responded very well to the procedure and were able to see clearly soon after surgery. They are scheduled for routine follow-up visits within a week as part of standard post-operative care.

Emphasising the significance of early treatment, Dr Sriram Simakurthy, Chief Medical Officer, Sankara Eye Hospital, Hyderabad, said:

“Cataract remains one of the leading causes of vision impairment among the elderly, but it is also one of the most treatable conditions today. With advanced technology and skilled surgical expertise, patients can undergo safe procedures with minimal discomfort and regain clear vision within days, significantly improving their quality of life.”

Sharing insights on the procedure, Dr Guduru Venkata Prabhakar, who led the surgeries, said,

“Phacoemulsification has transformed cataract care by enabling precise, small-incision surgery with excellent outcomes. Patients experience minimal discomfort, rapid recovery, and can regain clear vision almost immediately after the procedure.”

The patients and their families also appreciated the seamless care journey, citing supportive staff, efficient coordination, and the hospital’s clean and patient-friendly environment as key factors contributing to their positive experience.

These successful outcomes highlight how timely diagnosis, advanced technology, and expert surgical care can effectively prevent avoidable vision loss among the elderly. With minimally invasive techniques enabling faster recovery and improved quality of life, Sankara Eye Hospital continues to play a vital role in helping patients regain clear vision, independence, and confidence to return to their daily activities.
