MONTCLAIR, New Jersey Mar 13: Mountainside Medical Center recently reached an important clinical milestone. Dr. Nitika Dabas and our Cath Lab team successfully performed the facility’s first leadless pacemaker implantation, a major step forward in our growing cardiac services.
Leadless pacemakers represent a significant advancement in cardiac care. Unlike traditional pacemakers, these devices do not require leads (wires) or a surgical pocket, essentially eliminating the risk of infection and other complications. At roughly , the size of a AAA battery, implantation of the leadless device removes cosmetic concerns with no visible scar, no arm limitations, and the ability to implant, retrieve and replace the pacemaker as needed. Additionally, the battery lasts much longer than a traditional pacemaker.
Performing these procedures at Mountainside means patients no longer have to travel far for cutting-edge cardiac care, access to advanced treatment is now right in our community.
For patients, this innovation translates into a faster return to daily activities and greater peace of mind. Shorter recovery times and fewer lifestyle limitations mean patients can continue to live active, fulfilling lives while benefiting from the latest advancements in cardiac technology.
“Performing our first leadless pacemaker implantation here at Mountainside is an exciting milestone for both our team and our patients,” said Dr. Dabas. “This technology allows us to provide advanced, minimally invasive cardiac care locally, reducing recovery time and helping patients return to their normal activities more quickly.”
This milestone also underscores Mountainside Medical Center’s commitment to building a robust, innovative electrophysiology and cardiovascular program. By offering procedures like leadless pacemaker implantation locally, we are expanding access to advanced care, improving outcomes, and reinforcing our dedication to patient-centered excellence in heart health.
