Facility with IVF services, Labour OT and advanced NICU, including nitric oxide therapy, strengthens care for high-risk pregnancies and critically ill newborns across Mumbai & MMR

Mumbai, Mar 27: At a time when premature births and neonatal complications are rising in urban India, especially in a fast-paced metro like Mumbai, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central has launched a dedicated Mother & Child Care Unit – Miracle, aimed at strengthening fertility services, high-risk pregnancy care, and specialised newborn intensive care for families across Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
The integrated unit brings together advanced IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) services, maternity care, a fully equipped Labour Operation Theatre (Labour OT), and advanced neonatal care under one roof, enabling seamless management from conception and pregnancy to delivery, postnatal, and newborn care. Strategically located in South Mumbai, the facility is designed to cater to the growing healthcare needs of patients, with easy accessibility from South Mumbai, Central Mumbai, and extended MMR regions including Thane, Navi Mumbai, and beyond.
Equipped to support fertility treatments as well as both routine and high-risk pregnancies, the unit ensures immediate access to critical care—an essential requirement in a densely populated and high-demand healthcare ecosystem like Mumbai.
A key component of the unit is its advanced Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), developed to manage critically ill and high-risk newborns. The NICU features a 6-bed intensive setup (expandable to 7) and is equipped with high-frequency ventilators, neonatal ventilators, incubators, and modern open care warmers, ensuring faster clinical response and improved neonatal outcomes for newborns across Mumbai.
A notable highlight is the availability of nitric oxide therapy—a specialised treatment used in managing neonatal pulmonary hypertension—currently available only in a limited number of centres in Mumbai. This further strengthens access to advanced neonatal care, enhancing the hospital’s capability to provide critical respiratory and cardiac support for newborns requiring intensive care.
The unit also integrates advanced monitoring systems, neonatal transport support across Mumbai & MMR, and comprehensive nutritional care, ensuring continuity of treatment from conception and birth through recovery. The presence of a dedicated Labour OT further strengthens emergency preparedness and enables close coordination between obstetric, fertility, and neonatal teams—critical in time-sensitive cases.
Ms. Zahabiya Khorakiwala, Managing Director, Wockhardt Hospitals, said,“This launch reflects our commitment to strengthening comprehensive mother and child care in Mumbai. With Miracle, including advanced IVF services and Neonatal ICU, we aim to offer a complete ecosystem supported by a team of highly experienced doctors and nurses, ensuring the best care for both mothers and newborns, especially in high-risk situations.”
Dr. Virendra Chauhan, Centre Head, said,“By integrating IVF services, maternity care, Labour OT, and advanced neonatal care under one roof in Mumbai Central, we are better equipped to manage complex cases that require immediate and coordinated intervention, especially for patients across Mumbai and the MMR region.”
Dr. Fazal Nabi, Head of Paediatrics, said,“The first few days of life are critical, particularly for premature and low birth weight babies. With advanced ventilation and therapies like nitric oxide now available in Mumbai, we can significantly improve survival and recovery outcomes for newborns.”
