India today celebrates the 93rd anniversary of the Indian Air Force (IAF), marking nearly a century of exemplary service, courage, and commitment to protecting the nation’s skies. This year’s grand parade and air show were held at the Hindon Air Base near Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh — one of Asia’s largest and most strategic airbases.

The Air Force Day celebrations showcased the evolution and strength of the IAF, which was established on October 8, 1932, and has since become a symbol of power, resilience, and national pride.

A Rotating Tradition Returns to Hindon

In keeping with the recent tradition of rotating the venue for Air Force Day, the celebrations returned to Hindon after previous editions were hosted in Chennai (2024), Prayagraj (2023), and Chandigarh (2022). This rotation initiative, encouraged by the Prime Minister, aims to bring major national events closer to different regions, encouraging public participation and fostering a stronger connection between civilians and the armed forces.

Tributes to the Fallen Heroes

The day began with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi paid homage to the brave air warriors and soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.

Operation Sindoor Takes Center Stage

One of the highlights of this year’s Air Force Day was the recognition of Operation Sindoor — a precise and powerful military response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The operation exemplified the IAF’s capability to deliver calibrated and effective responses against threats, reaffirming its role in national security.

Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, in his address, described the operation as a defining moment in the IAF’s history. “It demonstrated our precision, strength, and jointmanship. Operation Sindoor was not just a military achievement, but a message of unity, resolve, and strategic clarity,” he said.

Showcase of Aerial Strength and Indigenous Might

The parade featured a spectacular aerial and static display of advanced military platforms, including:

  • Rafale, Sukhoi Su-30MKI, and MiG-29 fighter jets
  • C-17 Globemaster III and C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft
  • Apache AH-64E attack helicopters and Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH)
  • Indigenous systems like the Netra AEW&C, Akash SAM system, and Rohini S-band radar

The now-retired MiG-21 Bison was also on display, paying tribute to its six decades of distinguished service.

Leaders Extend Gratitude and Pride

President Droupadi Murmu extended heartfelt wishes to the air warriors, veterans, and their families. In her message, she praised the IAF’s valor, professionalism, and humanitarian service during times of crisis.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi echoed these sentiments, saying, “The Indian Air Force epitomizes discipline, bravery, and precision. Their tireless efforts to safeguard our skies and respond to every challenge inspire the entire nation.”

A Day to Remember, A Force to Salute

Air Force Day 2025 is not just a celebration of military prowess, but a moment to honor the dedication, sacrifice, and excellence of India’s air warriors. From defending the skies to aiding in disaster relief and humanitarian missions, the Indian Air Force stands as a pillar of strength and reliability.

As the nation looks forward to a future of innovation, self-reliance, and strategic advancement, the IAF continues to soar higher — in technology, in courage, and in the hearts of every Indian.
