Indian Bank Celebrated 79th Independence Day and 119th Foundation Day

Chennai, August 19, 2025: Indian Bank celebrated the 79th Independence Day of the nation and its 119th Foundation Day on 15th August 2025, reflecting on the country’s legacy and reaffirming its commitment to the nation’s development. The National Flag was hoisted by Shri. Binod Kumar, MD & CEO, Indian Bank at Chennai, at the Registered Head Office in 66 – Rajaji Salai and at the Indian Bank Corporate Office in Royapettah.

To mark the milestone of its 119th Foundation Day, Indian Bank organized a torch of trust run by Sportspersons of the Bank from Corporate Office, Royapettah to Indian Bank Academy for Growth and Excellence (IMAGE), MRC Nagar, which was received by the Top Executives. The walkathon was followed by celebratory program graced by Shri M Nagaraju, IAS, Secretary, Department of Financial Services, Govt of India, as the chief guest.

While addressing the gathering, Shri M Nagaraju, IAS, Secretary, DFS, GOI, remarked upon the shared history of the nation and the Bank’s foundation day. He further added that laudable contributions were made by the Bank towards national progress. He urged the audience to contribute to nation building through innovation, community outreach and responsible banking.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Binod Kumar, MD & CEO paid tribute to the sacrifice made by our valiant freedom fighters and soldiers who secured India’s independence. He further added, Indian Bank remains dedicated to advancing financial inclusion, empowering communities, and steering our nation toward a brighter and more prosperous future. He highlighted the rapid strides and achievements made by the Country, resulting in credit rating upgradation to BBB/Stable/A-2 by S&P Global ratings for the nation as well as the Bank.

Adding to the celebratory spirit, Indian Bank underscored its commitment to social responsibility through impactful initiatives. The Chief guest Shri M Nagaraju, IAS, Secretary, DFS, GOI, handed over the ambulance key to Dr. G. Hariharan, Dean of Govt. Medical College and Hospitals, Omandurar. Furthermore, a month-long food distribution (Annadaan) is being organised by the Bank in celebration of the Foundation month in old age homes/shelter homes/ orphanages, and other similar institutions in and around Chennai. In recognition of outstanding contributions to society, Smt. Bhageerathy Ramamoorthy, Managing Trustee of Anandam (A Public Charitable Trust), was felicitated for her dedicated service to social causes.
