New Delhi: At the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Rajeev Rai, Member of Parliament from Ghosi and senior leader of the Samajwadi Party, presented India’s position on sustainable development and the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism. The session was attended by representatives from 193 countries.

In his address, Rajeev Rai reiterated India’s commitment to sustainable development and biodiversity, stating that the country is working closely with the international community to address the pressing challenges of climate change.
The MP expressed concern over the slow progress of the agenda set at the 29th Climate Change Conference and highlighted the issue of desertification. He emphasized India’s solidarity with Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and noted that India has strengthened partnerships with these nations through concessional finance, capacity-building initiatives, and the India-UN Development Partnership Fund. He also stressed the importance of restoring 2.6 million hectares of degraded land by 2030.
On disaster risk reduction, Rajeev Rai underscored that early warning systems and resilient infrastructure must remain a top priority. He further highlighted that India strongly upholds the principle of equity and Common but Differentiated Responsibilities (CBDR) in global climate action. It is noteworthy that Rajeev Rai was also part of the all-party delegation that represented India’s stance on Operation Sindoor and counter-terrorism at the international level.
