A recent study by Overnight Glasses identified the summer vacation destinations where eye protection is most needed. The research analyzed 46 global travel spots using four metrics: UV Index, average summer sunshine hours, temperature, and humidity. Each variable was normalized from 0–100 and combined into an Eye Protection Index. Locations at higher altitudes were flagged due to elevated UV intensity. Data sources included global climate databases and UV records for summer 2024.
Metric Value
UV index during peak season 11
Average Hours of sunshine in summer 10.8
Composite Score 87.43

A spokesperson from Overnight Glasses commented on the study: “Dubai’s second-place ranking reflects its unique combination of intense UV exposure and extended daylight hours. The emirate’s UV index of 11 coupled with nearly 11 hours of daily sunshine creates conditions that demand serious attention to eye protection. What sets Dubai apart is its relatively lower humidity levels, which, while potentially more comfortable for some visitors, can actually increase the risk of eye dryness and irritation. This makes proper eye protection even more crucial for both residents and tourists.”

“The data reveals a fascinating pattern in Dubai’s eye protection needs. While the composite score of 87.43 places it significantly ahead of most global destinations, it’s the combination of factors that tells the real story. The extended sunshine hours combined with high UV intensity creates a sustained exposure risk that many visitors might underestimate. The dry desert climate, while often perceived as more comfortable than humid environments, actually presents its own unique challenges for eye health and protection requirements.”
