Sanjay JainDoodhvale.com was started by Sanjay Kumar, a well-recognized problem solving IT professional and expertise in business development and people management, who left a shining IT career for solving widespread problem – stale, synthetic and adulterated milk.

Doodhvale.com promises natural, fresh, and unadulterated milk directly to the doorstep of the consumer from dairy farms. Consumer ordering once and servicing happens through the user-friendly mobile app that make customers walk away from stale, un-reliable & adulterated milk available in the market.

On how and why they started this, Sanjay Kumar said, “We saw a common problem to solve but, a vast industry to strike into and a sustainable business model that we could scale by innovating technology solutions and strict process.”

As Indians, everyone wants fresh milk and other dairy products daily. The keenness of getting fresh milk or dairy products is fundamental to our legacy. However, it’s seen that the quality of milk that gets delivered to homes is far poorer to what we suppose, manufactured with the milk powder, and has questionable storage and weak cold chain.

Ishu Jain, a young business graduate, and entrepreneur explained, “We realized that the Indian milk market, despite being such a large and old industry, is having huge space of modernization and follows very irrational practices. For example, at the initial levels of aggregation, most of the milk testing is still done by tasting it. Means, the milk delivered to your doorstep is checked on the verdict of someone who has tasted it.”

Sudhir Jain, co-founder, seasoned entrepreneur, told that “For us, the mission at Doodhvale.com is to deliver natural, fresh and unadulterated milk to customer doorstep every day. Natural means straight from the farm without any addition of milk powder or preservatives, antibiotics and milk reaches to the consumer in 24-36 hours of milking. Unadulterated means scientific quality testing of milk for adulteration at every stage, and strictly prohibited to the commonly used practice of oral tasting for accepting milk. All this quality promise of Doodhvale.com is done by adding ease of home delivery to the consumer.”

“Our business model is prepaid and postpaid subscription-based where a consumer order once and is served regularly. On the mobile application, consumers can set their daily/alternate or customized weekly scheduled subscriptions as per their requirements. Besides, the consumer can also change the order quantity of milk or other products until noon. The customer has the flexibility of doing online payment using different instruments.

“The mobile app is a scalable way of acquiring consumers and also gives us the ability to cross-sell value-added products such as Paneer, curd and ghee, and other daily essentials,” Sanjay further explained.

“We deliver on our promise with the help of our strong network of progressive dairy farmers who are using modern technology for cattle feeding, health, milking, and storage and also delivery partners who deliver milk and other products to the consumer’s doorstep. It’s a win-win situation for our dairy farmers, delivery partners, and consumers, said Ishu.

For its sourcing, Doodhvale engages directly with the tech dairy farms like Doodhvale’s own farm, eliminating all middlemen, follows ethical and process-oriented procurement practices, and invests in cold chain logistics and quality testing infrastructure.

For its delivery, Doodhvale works with local low-income entrepreneurs who work part-time for 3-4 hours in the morning, delivering milk to the consumers. The regular income that they receive from these 3-4 hours of work ensures that the fixed expenses of their businesses are taken care of, leaving the remaining part of the day for their savings.

On current business and scaling up, Sudhir said, “All the important machinery of our business is in place. We are currently a profitable business and are growing organically at 20% every month, and so far we have achieved more than 3 million deliveries in Delhi NCR. NCR is a huge market with about 4 million households. Our first target is to reach 50,000 households in the NCR region. As we reach this, we would start replicating the same model in the top 5 tier 1 cities of the country.”
