
Kolkata, Mar 18th: Athlead, in collaboration with South City International School (SCIS), hosted a sports carnival aimed at promoting grassroots sports development and encouraging holistic student engagement. The event witnessed the presence of distinguished football professionals Mr Alvito D’Cunha, Chief Scout and Coach, Athlead, a former Indian international and former East Bengal midfielder, widely regarded as one of the most accomplished midfielders of his generation, Mr Jose Ramirez Barreto, Director of Football, Athlead, a Mohun Bagan legend widely regarded as one of the most iconic foreign players in Indian football history, known for his prolific goal-scoring record and long-standing contribution to Indian club football, along with Mr Sandip Patil, Director of Cricket, Athlead, a former Indian international cricketer and 1983 World Cup winner.
The carnival featured a range of football-based activities, including a football tournament, structured drills and training sessions for students from Classes 3 to 8. These sessions were designed and conducted by Athlead’s professional coaching team, providing students with exposure to structured training methodologies.
A key highlight of the event was the launch of the Athlead Cricket Program at the South City campus by Mr Sandip Patil. The launch included a meet-and-greet session with students and coaches, followed by a felicitation ceremony honouring Mr Sandip Patil, Mr Alvito D’Cunha and Mr Jose Ramirez Barreto for their contributions to Indian sport.
The event concluded with intra-class football tournaments, followed by a prize distribution ceremony and a ceremonial kit handover to Athlead After-School Programme (ASP) football students, marking the beginning of a structured and long-term sports development pathway at SCIS.
This initiative reflects Athlead’s continued commitment to building a strong grassroots sports ecosystem in partnership with educational institutions, while providing students with access to professional coaching and structured development pathways.
