Cabinet Approves INR 2,169 Crore Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase 2A Project

June 10: The Union Cabinet has approved the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase 2A with an estimated cost of ₹2,169.04 crore, marking a significant step toward expanding urban mass rapid transit infrastructure in the city.

The approved phase aims to enhance connectivity across key urban and suburban corridors in Ahmedabad, improve last-mile connectivity, and reduce traffic congestion in the rapidly growing metropolitan region.

Officials said the project will further strengthen the city’s public transport network by integrating with existing metro lines and other transport systems, offering commuters a faster, safer, and more sustainable travel option.

The expansion is expected to support economic growth by improving access to business districts, residential hubs, and industrial zones, while also contributing to reduced carbon emissions through greater adoption of public transport.

Authorities noted that the project aligns with the government’s broader vision of expanding modern urban infrastructure and promoting efficient, eco-friendly mobility solutions across major Indian cities.
