May 14: The European Union’s revised draft list has included India among countries eligible to continue exporting aquaculture products, providing relief to the country’s seafood and fisheries sector.

The inclusion is expected to support India’s marine export industry by ensuring continued access to one of its key international markets for aquaculture products.

Industry stakeholders say the development will help maintain trade stability and safeguard export earnings, particularly for shrimp and other seafood products that form a major share of India’s marine exports.

The decision is also seen as important for sustaining livelihoods in coastal regions, where aquaculture plays a significant role in employment and income generation.

Officials and exporters believe the move reinforces confidence in India’s compliance with international quality and safety standards in seafood production and processing.

The development is expected to further strengthen India’s position in the global seafood trade market.
