Khadi Sales Hit Record INR 1.87 Lakh Crore in 2025–26, Marking Strong Rural Demand Growth

May 27: The Khadi sector has achieved a historic milestone with sales reaching a record ₹1.87 lakh crore in the financial year 2025–26, marking strong growth in India’s traditional handloom and village industries, the Prime Minister’s Office (Prime Minister’s Office India) said.

The record performance reflects rising consumer demand for indigenous, sustainable, and eco-friendly products, supported by improved branding initiatives, expanded retail presence, and greater market accessibility for rural artisans and enterprises.

Officials said the growth highlights the strengthening of rural entrepreneurship and the continued expansion of the Khadi and Village Industries ecosystem, which plays a key role in generating employment and supporting livelihoods across rural India.

The surge in sales also indicates a shift in consumer preference towards locally produced and environmentally sustainable goods, with khadi gaining increased acceptance in both domestic and international markets.

Experts noted that the achievement underscores the growing economic significance of traditional industries in India’s broader development story, particularly in empowering rural communities and small-scale producers.
