Sensex Eases From Day’s High as SmallCap Stocks Gain Momentum

Mumbai, Sep 3: Indian equity markets remained in positive territory on Thursday, although the benchmark Sensex gave up part of its early gains as investors turned cautious after a strong opening.

Sensex Eases From Day’s High as SmallCap Stocks Gain Momentum

The Sensex had climbed more than 300 points at its day’s high before easing, while the Nifty traded near the 24,000 mark. The broader market, however, continued to attract buying interest, with small-cap stocks performing better than the benchmark indices.

The BSE SmallCap index was up nearly 1 per cent during afternoon trade, indicating stronger investor participation beyond large-cap shares. The MidCap index also remained marginally higher, reflecting relatively healthy market breadth.

Among individual stocks, Anant Raj and Capri Global were among the notable gainers. Capri Global was trading more than 5 per cent higher around midday, adding to the strength seen in the broader financial and small-cap segment.

Banking and financial stocks continued to provide support to the market. The financial sector gained after three consecutive sessions of declines, helped in part by expectations that the large foreign-currency inflows mobilised through the RBI’s special schemes could improve liquidity conditions for banks.

The market recovery comes after the Sensex and Nifty had declined for three straight sessions. Investors are now weighing positive global cues against concerns over crude oil prices, US bond yields and geopolitical developments.

The broader market is showing relatively stronger participation, suggesting that investors are selectively looking beyond the major indices for opportunities. However, continued volatility could keep trading cautious as global economic and geopolitical signals remain uncertain.

Overall, Thursday’s session reflects a mixed but improving market mood, with banking and small-cap stocks providing support even as benchmark indices remain below their day’s highs.
