Kolkata, 28 September, 2026: Mastering spelling is mastering application of thoughts, said Mrs Agnimitra Paul, Minister for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, West Bengal, here today while inaugurating the Grand Finale Awards Ceremony 2026 of SPELL-A-THON OLYMPIADS at the National Library auditorium. Addressing winners of the Statewide spelling, vocabulary and language competition, under the mentorship of IIM Bangalore, she said “You carry the proud intellectual legacy of our State”. She added that the Government of West Bengal was deeply committed to Improving the education scenario of the State. She advised students “never to lose curiosity and try to enrich themselves continuously”.
In her welcome address, Mrs. Janaki Venkatramani said SPELL-A-THON was beyond spelling, it was mastery of the English language. “lets go far beyond isolated words and master the language “. She emphasized that “our framework is seamlessly aligned to the prevailing academic curriculum “
Heads of schools from across Kolkata and neighbouring districts, coordinators and leading educationists convened to celebrate young champions of the unique spelling competition
More than 4,500 children from more than 77 premier schools across Kolkata and various districts of West Bengal had participated in the 13th Grand Finale Competition of SPELL-A-THON OLYMPIADS held on June 27-28, 2026, at Gokhale Memorial Girls’ School, Kolkata and on 12 July at Techno India Group Public School, Hooghly (Chinsurah). The 13th Anniversary Inter-School OPEN SINGLE ROUND COMPETITION 2026, was also held at both the venues marking over a decade of nurturing linguistic excellence in young minds.

Mrs. Venkatramani said: “Our evaluation format completely eliminates the scope for rote learning. We focus strictly on analysing a child’s true grasp of English vocabulary, practical grammar, deep comprehension, and advanced core linguistic skills.”
