Summus Acquires Controls For Automation

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct 16 — Summus today announced its acquisition of Controls For Automation (CFA), a leader in pneumatics and motion control solutions across New England. The acquisition provides customers broader access to pneumatic, fluid power and motion control products and services, backed by expanded engineering, automation and assembly capabilities. With CFA, Summus now supports more customer needs from design through production while expanding its capabilities across key industrial, medical and technology-oriented markets.

Headquartered in Taunton, Massachusetts, CFA has served customers for over 50 years with a premier vendor line card as well as system integration, stocking, serialization, labeling, custom engineering, subassembly and commitment to quality. The company enhances Summus with established expertise and customer relationships across applications including medical, packaging, semiconductor, custom machine building, printing and biochem.

“Controls For Automation brings together exactly what we look for as we grow: deep technical expertise, strong customer relationships and a service model that closely aligns with our own,” said Shawn Toney, CEO of Summus. “This is a strategic addition to our portfolio that builds on what Summus already does well while expanding the products, expertise and engineered solutions we can bring to customers. Together, we are strengthening our presence in New England and creating new opportunities across some of the industries and applications shaping the future of automation.”

The acquisition builds on Summus’ broader growth strategy by adding complementary capabilities that strengthen its existing portfolio of distribution, technology, engineering and assembled solutions. CFA’s expertise in pneumatics, motion control, engineering and system integration expands the range of customer challenges Summus can address while creating additional opportunities to bring capabilities and expertise across the portfolio to new industries, applications and markets.

For CFA, joining Summus provides access to the resources, complementary capabilities and broader reach of an established fluid power and motion control organization. The combination positions CFA to build on more than four decades of technical expertise and customer relationships, expand what it can offer customers and pursue continued growth as part of the broader Summus portfolio.

The acquisition also creates opportunities to extend the combined organization’s capabilities in emerging applications, including liquid cooling and semiconductor technologies. CFA customers will continue to receive uninterrupted product and service support throughout the transition.

“For more than 50 years, CFA has built its business by solving problems for customers and developing relationships that last,” said Dave Mochi, owner and president of Controls For Automation. “Joining Summus gives our team a stronger platform for the future, with access to broader capabilities and resources that will help us do even more for our customers. Just as importantly, we’re joining an organization that shares our commitment to technical expertise, responsiveness and long-term customer relationships.”
