Gurugram, September 29: On World Heart Day, Samsung today highlighted how its Galaxy Watch helps users take a more proactive approach to their everyday health. From tracking sleep and physical activity to monitoring heart rate, blood pressure and other health indicators, Samsung’s Galaxy Watch series brings a range of health insights to the wrist, helping users better understand their bodies and make informed choices as part of their daily routines.
With heart disease remaining the number one cause of death worldwide, World Heart Day, observed on September 29 by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the World Heart Federation, acts as a reminder of the importance of cardiovascular health and the everyday choices that support a healthy lifestyle.
Small changes, such as getting enough sleep and making time for 30 minutes of exercise, can contribute to healthier routines. Samsung Galaxy Watch supports these choices through features that help users monitor their health, recognise changes in their routines and stay connected with the people they care about.
Understanding Your Body at a Glance: Heart Health Score
The American Heart Association recommends looking at Life’s Essential 8[1] as key measures for improving and maintaining cardiovascular health: diet, exercise, sleep, weight, blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and smoking cessation. Understanding these factors can help users make informed choices about their everyday habits. Samsung Health’s Heart Health Score is designed to help you in this journey. It tracks, analyses and consolidates the past seven days of sleep duration, and daily activity level into a single, easy-to-understand score, while also providing body composition metrics such as BMI, and vascular load.[2]
For example, if a user misses their daily exercise for several days, Samsung Galaxy Watch can recognise a decrease in moderate-to-high intensity activity and reflect the change through a lower Heart Health Score. It can then recommend taking the next step, such as going for a run. By bringing these insights directly to the wrist, Samsung Galaxy Watch helps users recognise changes, understand their habits and take steps towards healthier routines.
Advanced Sensor Technology: From Measurement to Meaning
Samsung Galaxy Watches are equipped with an advanced BioActive Sensor which integrates three precision sensors in one: an optical heart rate sensor (PPG), an electrocardiogram sensor (ECG),[3] and a bioelectrical impedance analysis sensor (BIA).
Users can check their blood pressure[4] from their wrist after calibrating the feature once every four weeks using a home blood pressure monitor. By placing a finger on the watch’s side electrode for 30 seconds, users can also measure an electrocardiogram to detect signs of abnormal heartbeats, including atrial fibrillation or ectopic beats.
The Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN)[5] feature, which detects abnormal heart signals, monitors the user’s heart rhythm throughout the day and provides a proactive notification if abnormal signs are repeated. In several countries, these notifications[6] have led to early detection of risks such as atherosclerosis or myocardial infarction.
Around-the-Clock Health Monitoring, Even During Sleep
Health monitoring does not stop when the day ends. When worn during sleep, Samsung Galaxy Watch analyses five major vital signs: heart rate during sleep, heart rate variability,[7] respiratory rate, skin temperature and blood oxygen saturation.
These signals are compared against a user’s personal baseline. When meaningful deviations are detected, Samsung Galaxy Watch sends a notification, helping users recognise changes and consider whether to rest, recover or seek medical guidance.
By providing insights overnight as well as during the day, Samsung Galaxy Watch helps users stay informed about changes in their health as part of their everyday routine.[8]
Heart to Heart: Connected Care That Adds Peace of Mind
Samsung Health’s Health Data Sharing[9] function enables users to share agreed health data, including steps, blood pressure, heart rate and medication adherence, with loved ones in real time.
Whether it is parents living far away, partners, siblings, grandparents or friends, users can stay connected to the health routines of the people they care about. They can check whether their parents have completed their daily walk or taken their prescribed medication on time, helping them stay connected even from a distance.
From understanding everyday habits to monitoring health throughout the day and staying connected with loved ones, Samsung Galaxy Watch brings health insights together on the wrist, helping users make small, informed choices that can support healthier routines.
