 The session promoted the idea of reading for at least 30 minutes a day, nurturing curiosity, imagination, and a lifelong love for books as part of HarperCollins India’s year-long Read for Pleasure campaign. The session was designed as an engaging conversation, where the author interacted with learners and shared insights on the power of books and storytelling, building a culture of reading for pleasure in schools, her journey as an author and inspirations behind her work and encouraging young readers and writers. Mr Abhishek Sen, an educator and head of the English department at JBCN International School, Parel anchored the entire interaction.

The session was followed by a question-and-answer round between the author and JBCN International School, Parel learners. The learners asked a range of questions from how to choose the right words for their writing task, what made her decide to blend many different formats into her book, to how she prepares herself while writing in different genres, etc. It was an enriching experience for the learners to gain firsthand insights from a renowned author.

 Speaking on the occasion renowned author Shobha Tharoor Srinivasan said,

“It’s inspiring to see initiatives like this bring together students, educators, and partners like JBCN International School to celebrate reading as a joyful, everyday habit- because when children engage with stories, they don’t just read, they grow, imagine, and connect with the world in meaningful ways.”

“When you write and when you develop ideas, whatever the language, it’s the use of words and the use of your imagination that then gets translated and gives people an opportunity to experience so many other worlds. So, reading and writing, especially on World Book Day, is an incredible opportunity,” she added.

Tina Narang, Executive Publisher – HarperCollins Children’s Books said,

‘We are delighted to have partnered with JBCN to bring young readers an inspiring session by popular author, Shobha Tharoor Srinivasan, on World Book Day. We believe sessions such as this one are a vital step towards getting children interested in the world of words and reading and Shobha’s book and session helped make that connection brilliantly.”

 Mr Alexander Abraham, Principal, JBCN International School, Parel, opined;

“At JBCN, what we have built across all the campuses is well beyond academics, it’s a community of curious, confident Changemakers. Learning is rooted in inquiry, real world thinking, and most importantly, in nurturing student voice. Opportunities like these allow our learners to move beyond textbooks and truly connect with ideas, experiences, and perspectives that shape the world.”

 The session was a simple but powerful idea to rediscover reading not as a task but as something learners can truly enjoy every single day.
