Joyce University of Nursing and Health Sciences Appoints Dr. Shelley Johnson as Provost and Chief Academic Officer

SALT LAKE CITY, July 15, 2025 — Joyce University of Nursing and Health Sciences has appointed Dr. Shelley Johnson as Provost and Chief Academic Officer, effective June 30. Dr. Johnson brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in higher education and healthcare, along with a deep understanding of Joyce University’s mission, having served on its Board of Trustees and as Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee.

Dr. Johnson most recently served as Provost at Salem University, where her leadership was instrumental in advancing academic excellence and driving institutional growth. Her career includes serving as Dean of Nursing at Florida A&M University, where she led a team of over 140 faculty and staff. Throughout her professional journey, Dr. Johnson has been recognized for her commitment to developing innovative nursing programs and preparing future healthcare leaders.

Dr. Johnson’s academic background includes a Ph.D. in Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership (EdD) from the University of Phoenix, a Master of Science in Community Health Nursing from Penn State, a Master’s in Business Administration from Northwestern University-Kellogg, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. Earlier in her career, she led the development of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, demonstrating her dedication to expanding access to high-quality nursing education, while her latter career focused on program revitalization.
