PVR INOX Honours David Dhawan with Special Film Festival Celebrating His Legacy in Indian Cinema

Apr 29: PVR INOX, India’s largest and most premium cinema exhibitor, has announced a specially curated film festival celebrating the legacy of one of Hindi cinema’s most prolific and beloved filmmakers, David Dhawan.

Widely regarded as the architect of blockbuster comedy in India, David Dhawan redefined mainstream Hindi cinema with his signature blend of high-energy storytelling, humour, and mass appeal. Spanning a career of over four decades, his films have consistently captured the pulse of audiences, transforming everyday chaos into joyous cinematic spectacles.

The festival, beginning May 8, will present a curated line-up of some of his most iconic films, offering audiences a chance to relive timeless entertainers on the big screen. The initiative also comes at a fitting time as his latest directorial, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, gears up for release.

Speaking on the initiative, Niharika Bijli, Lead Strategist at PVR INOX Ltd., said,

“At PVR INOX, we strongly believe in the enduring power of the theatrical experience and in celebrating filmmakers whose work has shaped India’s moviegoing culture. It is an honour to host a festival dedicated to David Dhawan’s remarkable legacy. His films have brought joy to audiences across generations, and this festival offers a unique opportunity for newer audiences to rediscover these classics on the big screen.”

Over the years, David Dhawan has collaborated with some of the biggest stars in the industry, creating iconic on-screen pairings and delivering box office successes that continue to enjoy cult status.

Sharing his thoughts, David Dhawan said,

“I have always believed in making films that entertain people and help them forget the struggles of daily life. My aim has been simple—to make people laugh, feel good, and leave the theatre with a smile. Seeing PVR INOX curate a festival around my work is truly heartwarming. I look forward to audiences reliving the madness, music, and joy on the big screen once again.”

The festival will feature a line-up of beloved films including:

  • Raja Babu
  • Partner
  • Aankhen
  • Main Tera Hero
  • Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya

These films reflect Dhawan’s trademark style—high-energy comedy, memorable characters, and chart-topping music—cementing his contribution to shaping the landscape of commercial Hindi cinema.

A special event will also be hosted by PVR INOX, where David Dhawan will be in conversation with Varun Dhawan, offering insights into films, life, and his cinematic journey.

The David Dhawan Film Festival is part of PVR INOX’s ongoing initiative to celebrate exceptional talent and landmark films from India and around the world. By bringing timeless classics back to theatres, the company continues to create opportunities for new audiences to discover iconic cinema while allowing longtime fans to relive nostalgia.
