New Delhi, May 12: In a significant move to support agricultural stability in the region, India has agreed to supply fertilisers to Nepal amid the neighbouring country’s mounting shortage. The decision comes as Nepal faces critical gaps in the availability of essential fertilisers, threatening crop production and agricultural output in the upcoming sowing season.
According to officials from India’s Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, the supply arrangement will ensure a steady flow of key fertiliser products to Nepal, helping farmers maintain productivity and prevent disruption in food supply chains. The move underscores India’s commitment to regional cooperation and agricultural collaboration with neighbouring countries.
Nepal’s agricultural authorities had previously flagged concerns over dwindling stocks and rising costs of fertilisers, which are vital for supporting the country’s largely agrarian economy. India’s timely intervention is expected to stabilize prices and secure essential inputs for Nepali farmers.
This development also highlights the longstanding trade and diplomatic ties between India and Nepal, emphasizing mutual support in addressing pressing challenges in agriculture and food security.
The first batch of fertilisers is expected to be delivered in the coming weeks, with both governments coordinating to ensure smooth transport and distribution across Nepal.
